Resist sinners because they will lead you to destruction (Proverbs 1:8‐19)

The aim of this passage it to lead us to learn that we need to keep away from sinful ways because sin leads to destruction for the person practicing it.

Children are asked to resist the temptations of sinners (Pro 1:8-16)

Sinners seek to influence others to follow their ways.

We are first asked to listen to the instructions of our parents because these instructions would be a mark of honor. The scriptures go on to ask us to resist the enticement of sinners. The sinners are purposed on evil and violence and will ask us to join them. If they entice us to violence and destruction against the innocent so as to acquires these innocent people’s property, we are not to walk in their direction or company.

The scriptures are clear about us being separated from evil and evildoer.

Leviticus 20:23 –  And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 –  Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.

We are called to distinguish ourselves from the world so that there is no question about who we worship. The are to witness and be a light and salt to the world. We are not to be complacent or mere companions to sinners. We are only to have close contact to sinners that are repentant and at some level seeking God.


How are you enticed to sin daily in person or online? How has the Holy Spirit and the word of God helped you resist?

Because sinners are destroyed by their ways (Pro 1:17-19)

Sin is always destructive to the sinner.

These sinners can not see the snare that they are putting in place are for themselves. Being greedy for unjust gain leads to the destruction of the person by those gains.

Romans 6:23 –  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

James 1:15 – Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
