The aim of this passage is to cause us to learn how Jesus was baptized and what happened immediately after.
God expects us and will enable us to do all of His will.
Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized by John at the Jordan. John knew who Jesus was and so was reluctant to baptize Him. John said that he was then one who needed to be baptized by Jesus Christ. Jesus said that it was right for Him, as a representative of the Godhead, to completely submit to God’s will. John then agreed to proceed with the baptism. Jesus was baptized and the moment He came out of the water, the heavens opened and the Spirit of God descended like a dove and come to rest on Jesus Christ. A voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am delighted.”
If it was right for Jesus Christ to submit to all of God’s will, then it is right for us. We should pray that same prayer that the psalmist made.
Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!
Are there areas of the scriptures that you have been resistant to obeying? How could you pray for help in repenting and obeying them?
