The aim of this passage is to cause us to understand the consequences of rejecting the fear of God
A life of sin, living in rejection of God, is self-destructive.
Wisdom calls out to people everywhere asking how long they will love being simple, dismissive and haters of knowledge. Wisdom goes on to say that it is easily accessible if they turn from their ways. However, because they have been unreceptive to wisdom they will find calamity and terror in their lives. They will find themselves where they can not find wisdom to help themselves. Due to their hatred of knowledge and choice not to live in fear of God, they also reject wisdom. They would, therefore, suffer the consequences of their choices. Rejectors of wisdom destroy themselves, but those that heed wisdom live in security and ease without fear.
Psalms 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
What security do you find in living a life that is pleasing to God?
